What is market?

SITE
The site was located parralel to the borivali west railway station from the station platform 2 entrance to the Jawan housing society .
SITE ANALYSIS
The three main parts which we were looking at was the shopping strip that went along the road , Indraprastha shopping center and the Jawan housing society .

PROBLEMS
For an area with a heavy flow , it lacks areas and spaces for people to sit .

As there is no proper space for vendors/ seller there’s no space for them to store their items .

Due there not being sufficient space for people to vend , they set up very near to the road therefore leaving no buffer space for vehicles to park . Which in turn creates a disruption of flow and
creates disruptions of layers which is organically formed
SPECULATION : PROGRAM AND PEOPLE

There is formation of different layers type layers that co-exist together such as the permanent built form , temporal structures that leans on it , independent temporal structures ,stationary vehicles and mobile displays .

In the forecourt created by the placement of the builtform , certain points are created which slows or pauses the flow . The placement of the stalls , the arrangement of the display as well as shading devices and the railing acting as a threshold .

In the larger stretch of the area there isn't much buffer space between the shops and the road , therefore the flow from the station to the nearby areas get deviated or slowed down or paused due to the the different types of extensions of the shops on to the buffer space.
Along with the extension the parking of vehicles and other factors such a lamp post also play a role in this .
THIS BRINGS US TO OUR DESIGN QUESTION
How can the visual aesthetics / porosity and the spatial perception of an urban market be impacted ?

PROGRAM DIAGRAM
This diagram shows how different types of programmes (existing and non existing ) relates to the different types of actors that would be involved in the programmes .

CONCEPTUAL DIAGRAMS
DESIGN PLAN
The design shows how the flow is modulated with respect to its speed as well as creating pause points and interactive nooks and corners .

DESIGN SHORT SECTION
The section shows how the walls create a visual block and how the short walls help in created visual porosity throughout , this majorly helps in the modulation of the flow
DESIGN LONG SECTION
The section shows how the walls create a visual block and how the short walls help in created visual porosity throughout , this majorly helps in the modulation of the flow

DESIGN ISOMETRIC VIEW
This shows the roof and shows how at the ground where there are larger open space it provides shade which indirectly creates a pause point .
